(more) »rank: 2377

from: DG

Editorial Product Review:Album Description:In another original pairing violinist Hilary Hahn brings together the familiar, highly commercial and long-awaited recording of the famous Sibelius Violin Concerto with the rarely performed Violin Concerto by Arnold Schoenberg. Hahn brings out the romantic qualities of Schoenberg's Concerto--known as one of the most difficult pieces in the violin repertoire--showing why it makes an ideal coupling with the Sibelius--'Hahn didn't merely play the notes, she passionately engaged with them.' (The Daily Telegraph on a live performance of the Schoenberg Violin Concerto). As ...

Leonard Bernstein - Young People's Concerts / New York Philharmonic

(more) »rank: 11954

starring: Bernstein, New York Philharmonic

Editorial Product Review: :Leonard Bernstein earned glory as a composer, conductor, and pianist (classical and jazz), but nothing gave him more pleasure than the joy of teaching. He presented the unique blend of spoken words and music known as the 'Young People's Concerts' throughout his tenure as music director of the New York Philharmonic and for several years after. His enjoyment, and his audience's, can be seen vividly captured by the video cameras. He is an intensely interactive teacher, getting his audience to sing, springing a quiz ...

Beethoven's Wig, Vol. 2: More Sing-Along Symphonies

(more) »rank: 6344

from: Rounder / Umgd

Editorial Product Review: :From a pure-pleasure standpoint, the first Beethoven's Wig was nothing to flip over, and the second disc in the series follows suit. However, that is not to say that this is not a valuable and possibly ingenious record. Those unfamiliar with the premise will quickly get the picture: Producer/writer/lead singer/chief clever guy Richard Perlmutter gathers a bundle of important classical works (Paganini's 'Violin Concerto #2,' Strauss' 'Blue Danube Waltz') and makes up silly, catchy lyrics to lay over them, informing the listener about the ...

Software equipment

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
