Handel: Messiah (Complete Oratorio); Battle, Quivar, Aler, Ramey, Davis

(more) »rank: 4079

by: George Frideric Handel, Andrew Davis, Kathleen Battle, Florence Quivar, John Aler, Samuel Ramey, Toronto Symphony Orchestra & Toronto Mendelssohn Choir

Editorial Product Review: :There are two English Davises, both conductors: Colin and Andrew--no relation. Colin recorded a landmark Messiah which is still available on Philips at budget price. This one is another matter entirely. Andrew Davis certainly knows this music, and he hits the big moments with gusto. But Messiah is more than big moments, and despite an excellent cast of soloists, there's too little involvement with the music (especially from Kathleen Battle) in the arias and more intimate moments to make this a clear recommendation. It's not ...

Spirit of The Season: Christmas with Sissel and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

(more) »rank: 3304

from: Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Editorial Product Review: :Music critics have called her voice 'ethereal,' 'pristine' and 'captivating.' Throughout her career, Norwegian-born singing sensation Sissel has performed with a variety of artists whose styles range from folk to jazz and from rock to hip-hop. She has sung for royalty and shared stages with superstars such as Celine Dion and Sting. But for Sissel, singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square was 'a match made in heaven.' In her first-ever Christmas album released in the U.S., Sissel has collaborated ...

Editorial Product Review: :When he was growing up, Andrea Bocelli recalls finding inspiration in a favorite recording of sacred music performed by tenor legend Franco Corelli. Bocelli--who in the meantime has come to inspire millions of fiercely loyal fans himself--returns to the genre as the guiding theme of Sacred Arias. These performances are filled with the singer's phenomenally well-known vocal signature: his flair for long, sweetly floating high notes and the gentle sense of cadence he brings to a melody. It's a mistake to compartmentalize Bocelli into a ...

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.
